17 CHINESE NATIONALS ARESTED IN KUTUKROM IN THE WESTERN REGION

Seventeen Chinese Nationals suspected to be engaging in illegal mining operations in the western region have been arrested and are currently in the custody of the Police and the Ghana Immigration Service assisting investigation.

Since the Presidents inaugurated the Inter Ministerial Task Forces to deal with the illegal (galamsey) menace in the country, the Western Regional police command has recorded an arrest of fifty-one (51) foreigners prominent among them are Chinese nationals in separate galamsey operations on different dates at different locations.

This latest operation on the fight against galamsey took place at Kutukrom in the Ellembele District of the Western Region and arrested thirteen (13) Chinese working with Gianhua Mining Investment Limited on the concession of Kutukrom Resources Limited owned by Philip Akuffo a Ghanaian.
Four (4) Chinese were also arrested at container village near Kutukrom.

Items retrieve from them include two registered pump gun and seven cartridges.
Briefing Pressmen at the Police Headquarters in Sekondi on Tuesday afternoon, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kofi Boakye noted that seven (7) out of the seventeen (17) suspects do have resident and working permit but as to what exactly they came to do in the country, they are yet to find that out through their investigations.
But all the suspects in this operation are being processed for court as soon as possible.
