Dilapidated
building serving as schools assembly and dining hall at FIASEMAN Senior High School
in Tarkwa is posing serious threats to the lives of students and both teaching
and non-teaching staffs in the school.
With
the current student enrolment of thousand six hundred, FIASEMAN Senior High
(FIASEC) stands with a grate deficit to infrastructural facilities. This in
adequacy has compelled the authorities convert some of the class rooms to
administration block and staff common hall.
Parts
this science laboratory block for the school is now used as the girl’s
dormitory and a home for the schools house mistress and her family.
The
school’s assembly hall which doubles as the dining hall and the kitchen is
gradually sinking into it foundation. A condition the girls lament to metro
news gives the boys in the science class the privilege to invade their privacy
at their dormitory.
This
uncompleted structure which was started some 16 years ago was to serve as the
schools administration block but the project has turned into a white elephant
on the compound of the school and the where about of the contractor is also not
known.
Some
of the teachers in the school who spoke to our correspondent noted that the
school is sitting on a time boom waiting to explode and as teachers they dread
for their lives and that of their pupils.
According
to them several petition to Ghana Education Service, the Ministry of Education as
well as other stakeholders has all note materialized for more than thirty years
now yet the population of the school keeps increasing.
Authorities
of the school are pleading for urgent attention now which they say will enable
conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning.
