NDC BREAKS THE HORNS OF NPP IN THE WESTERN REGION

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has succeeded in broken the horns of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the western region as the party wins more parliamentary seats in the region.

The voting pattern of the electorates in the western region of Ghana since 1992 where they voted massively for the NPP has changed astonishly in this year's elections. The popularity of the NPP in the western region started diminishing in the 2008 general elections held in Ghana where the NPP lost three parliamentary seats to the NDC in the western region. In the just ended general elections, the NDC has increased their parliamentary seats from 11 to18 out of the 26 parliamentary seats in the western region leaving the NPP with only 8 seats.

The recent parliamentary seats lost to the NDC in the western region are, the Ahanta West Constituency, Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira Constituency, Jomoro Constituency and the Wassa Amenfi East Constituency.

Some of NDC party faithful’s living within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis told REPORTS PLATFORM Correspondent that, the western region no longer remains the strong hold for the NPP even though the NDC lost massively in all the six constituencies within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis. However, this year's presidential and the parliamentary election result indicted clearly that the NDC has succeeded in crippling the strength of the NPP in the western region.

The party executive of the NPP are still in a state of shock as they could not factor out what exactly when wrong that they cloud loss some more parliamentary seats to the NDC in theregion.

Meanwhile before the December 7 polls, the western regional chairman of the NPP Nana Owusu Ankomah had told two radio stations in Takoradi that at the end of this year's election, the NPP will regain the three parliamentary seats NDC took from them and even take some other seats as well. While the regional chairman for NDC, Nana Toku also stated on the same radio stations that the NDC is going to win more seats in the western region after this year's general elections.
