NDC BREAKS THE HORNS OF NPP IN THE WESTERN REGION

NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has succeeded in broken the horns of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the western region as the party wins more parliamentary seats in the region.

The voting pattern of the electorates in the western region of Ghana since 1992 where they voted massively for the NPP has changed astonishly in this year's elections. The popularity of the NPP in the western region started diminishing in the 2008 general elections held in Ghana where the NPP lost three parliamentary seats to the NDC in the western region. In the just ended general elections, the NDC has increased their parliamentary seats from 11 to18 out of the 26 parliamentary seats in the western region leaving the NPP with only 8 seats.

The recent parliamentary seats lost to the NDC in the western region are, the Ahanta West Constituency, Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira Constituency, Jomoro Constituency and the Wassa Amenfi East Constituency.

Some of NDC party faithful’s living within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis told REPORTS PLATFORM Correspondent that, the western region no longer remains the strong hold for the NPP even though the NDC lost massively in all the six constituencies within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis. However, this year's presidential and the parliamentary election result indicted clearly that the NDC has succeeded in crippling the strength of the NPP in the western region.

The party executive of the NPP are still in a state of shock as they could not factor out what exactly when wrong that they cloud loss some more parliamentary seats to the NDC in theregion.

Meanwhile before the December 7 polls, the western regional chairman of the NPP Nana Owusu Ankomah had told two radio stations in Takoradi that at the end of this year's election, the NPP will regain the three parliamentary seats NDC took from them and even take some other seats as well. While the regional chairman for NDC, Nana Toku also stated on the same radio stations that the NDC is going to win more seats in the western region after this year's general elections.

DISGRUNTLE CHIEFS GOES TO COURT OVER ELECTION OF NEW EXECUTIVE

Some disgruntled chiefs in the Western Region House of Chiefs have decided to contest the election of new executive of the house at the high court since according to them proper lay down procedure of the house was not duly followed.

Awule Agyefi Kwame II

The disgruntled chiefs include Awule Agyefi Kwame II, Awule Angamatu Egyan II, Awule Annor Adjei III and Ogyeahouo Yaw Gyebi II. In a press briefing held in Takoradi on Wednesday, the chiefs indicated that the recent elections held by the Western Region House of Chiefs which was supervised by the regional electoral commission was not in sink with lay down procedure of the house and they therefore describe the elections as nal and void.
The aggrieved chiefs insist the notice of meeting on 3rd December 2012 was improper as it was not even issued by the proper officer reorganized by the house.
Adding that six out of the twenty-two members of the house converged that day and they were not up to half of the membership of the house so they wonder how they cloud go on and elect new president and his vice as well as five other members to represent the house at the national house of chiefs and the EC also supervised this lawless conduct by some of their colleagues.
In the rit presented to the press, they are calling on the high court to declare the 3rd December 2012 elections held in the House at Sekondi to elect new executive as nal and void and a consequential order setting same aside.

They are also seeking an injection restraining the third to the sixth respondent from acting or holding themselves out as persons elected as president and vice president of the western region house of chiefs as well as members of the national house of chiefs.
According to the aggrieved chiefs, they do not recognize the Omanhene of Wassa Fiase Traditional Area, Osagyefo Kwamina Enimil VI as the president of the western region house of chiefs including the vice and the other executive members as their leaders and the right persons to represent the house at the national house of chiefs.

"WILSON ARTHUR IS NOT A LOSER", ADJEI MENSAH SAIDS SO

WILSON ARTHUR
(Skyy Group of Company's)
The elected Member of Parliament (MP) on the ticket of the ruling NDC for the newly created Wassa East District in the Western Region, Isaac Adjei Mensah has challenged his close contender in the just ended general elections Wilson Arthur to come on board with him to deliver to the people of Wassa East if he really have the concerns of the people at heart.
According to the MP elect Mr. Adjei Mensah, he was not worried at all about the caliber of his competitor Wilson Arthur from the camp of the NPP because he knew NDC is well granted in the Wassa East constituency. “My worry was the gap, I wanted to make sure it was a big win and that is why his control on the media or his advantage on the media platform was a bit of a worry but not necessary that he is going to take the seat”.
Mr. Isaac Adjei Mensah however throws a challenge to Mr. Wilson Arthur who is also the CEO for Skyy Group of Companies to come on board with him to deliver to the people of the Wassa East Constituency if he really has the people’s plight at heart.
He added that, Wilson Arthur has not lost but he only competed a race and someone won and “I request that he comes on board and indeed demonstrate his commitment to the development of Wassa as he proclaims to be”. But according to Isaac Adjei Mensah, he has not seen any concerted effort from Wilson Arthur to demonstrate his effect of help developing the Wassa East District.
Out of 33,657 valid vote cast, Isaac Adjei Mensah who contested the seat on the ticket of the NDC pulled 19,242 whiles Wilson Arthur who also contested the seat on the ticket of the NPP pulling 13,996 vote and Moses Twumasi-Ankrah from the camp of PPP managed to pull 419 vote making Isaac Adjei Mensah the winner of the newly created Wassa East constituency seat for the ruling NDC from 2013-2016.
Meanwhile Wilson Arthur has remained silent over the issue as he says “no comment on this subject matter for now”.
